LORD VISCOUNT WELLINGTON:
A George III silver commemorative snuff box, rectangular and curved to fit the pocket, engraved on the cover with a profile portrait of Arhur Wellesley "LORD VISC.T WELLINGTON" within a laurel wreath, being crowned with another wreath by two winged cherubs, on a "pricked ground, the base engraved and inscribed with the battle honours "C. Rodrigo, Badajoz & Almeida", gilt interior, by Lea & Clark, Birmingham 1812; 2" (5 cms) long; 0.7 oz
*This box was made to commemorate Wellington's success during the Peninsular War of 1807-14 in three key events: the taking of Almeida after it was abandoned by the French in May 1811, the capture of Ciudad Rodrigo in January 1812 and the storming of Badajoz in April 1811.
