circular with reeded borders, the cover engraved with the arms and motto of the City of Cork below the legend "Corke Arms", maker's mark only "M.S", possibly overstriking another, probably Cork, c.1652; 2.8" (7.2 cms) diameter; 2.4 oz
Provenance: Presented in 1752 to James Fitzgerald, 20th Earl of Kildare (1722-1773) and thence by descent to Gerald Fitzgerald, 8th Duke of Leinster (1914-2000); Sothebys London 34d May 1984, lot 5; Christies London, King St., 13th June 2000, lot 219.
