oval with a pull-off cover, engraved on the cover with a shield coat of arms* and a crest within foliate, scrolling mantling, the base initialled "R.C", and dated "1663", maker's mark "BB" with a crescent & pellets, London 16773; 3.5" (9 cms) long; 3.45 oz
*Arms of Cann of Compton Greenfield, Gloucesteshire, baronets, for Sir Robert Cann, 1st BE. (1621?-1685). A leading merchant (and twice major) of Bristol who also became an MP for the City.
