THE MEDALS AND AWARDS OF REAR-ADMIRAL DENNIS JOHN HOARE 1892-1979.
A group of nine comprising 14-15 Star, War Medal (1914-20), Victory Medal, Defence Medal, War Medal (39-45), George V Jubilee Medal 1935, Coronation Medals 1937 and 1953 and the order of Aviz. Court Mounted as worn. The second and third named to Engineer Lt. D.J Hoare R.N. The accompanying group of miniatures with additional C.B. Military and Order of Orange Nassau, mounted as worn. Companion of the Order of the Bath, neck badge on red ribbon in Garrard & Co in case of issue. Order of Aviz, Chevalier 3rd Class neck badge on green ribbon in case of issue marked 'Frederico Da Costa', awarded for his part whilst a Lieutenant Commander in escorting the Portuguese Expeditionary Force to France in 1917. An Order of Orange Nassau, military division, Grand Officer, awarded during the Second World War, in a Roelof Citroen case of issue and Rear Admiral's epaulettes.
Rear Admiral Dennis Hoare was clearly a talented Engineer from an early age, following service on H.M.S. Collingwood, Birkenhead, Goshawk and Golrious he worked as a lecturer in Applied Mechanics at RN College Greenwich. From 8th August 1933 he was an Assistant Engineer in Chief for the Admiralty, later Fleet Engineer Officer, Submarines H.M.S. Dolphin. He was promoted to Eng Rear Admiral on the 16th March 1942, retiring in July of 1945. Awarded his C.B. in the King's Birthday List of 1945, Rear Admiral Hoare had a long and distinguished career gaining awards from Holland and Portugal for his part in the Second World War.
