A monochrome print, signed lower right. Printed and signed by the artist c1996. Unframed, 29 x 39cm. Printed for the vendor by the artist from the original negative at his modest Moscow apartment.
Khaldei was one of the most important Russian photographers and war correspondents. His best known work being an image of Soviet soldiers raising a flag over the Reichstag which has been widely reproduced. This photograph is typical of his eye for an emotionally charged image and composition. See illustration.
