A WHITE METAL PRISONER OF WAR WORK MATCHBOX. The aluminium matchbox holder and box with allover engraved decoration, 'D.W.' 'C.S.M. Wayte, C.Coy, 9th Worc Regt.Belgaum' 'Prisoner of War Camp Kirkee, Poona'. 11.5cm long. A CSM R. Wayte 9465 is recorded as serving with the 9th Battalion of the Worcestershire Regiment in Mesopotamia during World War I. It is conceivable that his first name was Richard but he was known as Dick hence the initials D.W. R. Wayte is recorded as being wounded in September 1915 and awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for valuable service in Mesopotamia with a Gazette date of 28th August 1917.
