CALENDARIUM LONDINENSE 2001-2014
Fourteen, aquatints, published by Molineux Press, Shropshire, each signed and numbered from editions of 100, image 15.5 x 26.5cm., each sheet 43.5 x 33cm., unframed (14)
* Launched by William Monk in 1903, the Calendarium was a sheet of rag paper of standard size, with an original etched headpiece and the calendar text below. They were sold for 2/6 (12 ½ new pence) with a copy of the previous year's calendar as a memento. Monk retired to Chester in 1933 and Leonard Squirrell then succeeded him to supply a total of 29 views, each of which was intended to capture something emblematic of the year in question. During the war, this was a straightforward enough task but later images lacked the same degree of pertinence. Squirrell handed over to Harry Eccleston in 1966 who gave way to Lawrence Josset in 1971. Anthony Dyson kept it going until 2000 and it has been steered since then by Jason Hicklin.
