AN EARLY 19TH CENTURY FRENCH HORN SNUFF BOX
in the form of a bi-corn hat, the hinged front cover impressed with two French gunners, one bending over on all fours, the other ramming a cannon, titled "Bonaparte A Toulon", the back of the box with an inlaid bone and brass wire cockade and a 19th century French rectangular horn snuff box, the cover impressed with the portrait bust of a Naval Officer flanked by flags with laurel-spray under and inscription "S.A.R.L.E PRINCE DE JOINVILLE"*; the latter 4" (10 cms) long (2)
*Francois-Ferdinand-Phillipe-Louis-Marie d' Orleans (1818-1900) was the third son of Louis Phillipe, Duke of Orleans, afterwards King of the French. He was an Admiral in the French Navy.
