commemorating the exploits of the legendary Scottish explorer and Missionary Dr. David Livingstone, with elephant mask handles, Livingstone's portrait medallion on the front and a lion goring a man as a final on the cover, the front engraved with Livingstone and Henry Stanley at their fabled meeting on the right and a Missionary preaching scene on the left, the back engraved with Livingstone's funeral procession, with Registered Design lozenge, c.1873 (hinge pin A/F); 9.7" (25.5 cms) long
*Livingstone's body was returned to Britain following his death from malaria in Africa in 1873. He was hailed a hero and was given a state burial at Westminster Abbey.
