ELIZABETH ADELA STANHOPE FORBES, ARWS (1859-1912) AUTUMN BREEZE Oil on canvas laid onto masonite 58.5 x 49.5cm. * Forbes' work was distinctive amongst the artists of the Newlyn School for stepping aside from hard-nosed social realism and presenting subjects that addressed less tangible themes, some of which had a poetical sentiment that bordered on fantasy. Whilst Stanhope Forbes adhered rigidly to the central focus of Cornish life with all its attendant pleasures and hardships, he praised his wife's work and admired her `charming and beautiful paintings which combine such lively imaginative qualities with almost unrivalled technical skill and artistic feeling.` Provenance: London, David Messum Fine Art Exhibited: Penzance and Nottingham, `Singing from the Walls`, July-December 2000, no.87

“Your condition reports are very concise and really help making informed decisions. You probably know, some auctioneers are very vague and others don’t even send them, so much appreciated!”
