Lot 562

A Starley 'Salvo' Open-Fronted Tricycle. Dating circa 1884, the 48-inch left hand driving wheel is driven by a 1½-inch long link chain, a hand-operated contracting band brake, stabilising handle, and a hand-operated ratchet steering to the 16-inch front wheel. The repaired saddle is mounted on a nickel-plated Arab Cradle Spring, itself being adjustable. All moving parts appear to be in good working order, the spoking is sound and the rubber tyring in good, serviceable condition. This tricycle is complete and highly functional, but the frame needs painting.

“I have to say I’m VERY impressed by the level of research that has gone in to the various items of my late father’s ...  Matthew sent me the full history of my Grandfather’s medals from WW1 - without any input from myself - so I’d only just sent him a note saying thanks, then the postman arrived with your items ... with even more evidence of unfrequented detailed research ! It’s been an absolute pleasure dealing with you all ... and may the pleasant surprises keep on coming !”
