* The horses may be Darkie and Prince. Anderson's rather sentimentalised title suggests the strong bond of companionship between man and beast, imperilled by the growing mechanization of farming after the War. This was the artist's only print in 1950 and he produced just three further prints after this one: in this subject as in his life, Anderson was sensing an end to years of productivity.
