NAVAL GLASS CUP,
the bell shaped bowl with a single handle, engraved 'Success to the Britannia 1774', the reverse with scrolling roses and thistles, on a banded stem and domed foot, height 14cm
Footnote: Britannia was launched in Bombay in 1774 and in the same year sailed from London to South Carolina. As well as passengers, she carried seven chests of Indian Tea which were dumped in the sea off the coast of South Carolina as a protest to the British duty levied on tea. This became known as the Charleston Tea Party.
