19THC PAINTED PANEL OF A JOCKEY - TOM CANNON 1871 a large wooden panel, painted with a portrait of a Jockey in racing clothing. With writing on one side, Tommy Cannon 1871. 174cms high *Tom Cannon Snr (1846-1917) was apprenticed to a trainer called Mr Sextie, and had his first race at the age of 14 at Plymouth in the Saltrom Handicap. His first classic win came in 1866 at the 1000 Guineas aboard a filly called Repulse, and we won many other high profile races. He won a total of 1544 winners in his career as a jockey, and is the Great Grandfather of Lester Piggott.
