SERAPI CARPET OF UNUSUAL SIZE,
Iranian Azerbaijan, circa 1870, the madder field of large stylised flower heads and angular vines around an indigo and salmon pin medallion framed by ivory, stepped spandrils and indigo borders of polychrome flower heads and angular vines flanked by double guard stripes, 385cm x 320cm
Condition: ends with characteristic minor losses into outer guard stripes, selvedges original/some folding and minor sections replaced, pile close clipped and generally good, small areas of old, inactive moth damage to the reverse mainly in outer guard stripes, one small re-weave (7cm x 3cm) in guard stripe/spandril.
