DAVID HUGO (1958-2013) - MIXED MEDIA SCULPTURE
a mixed media sculpture entitled 'Black Light', consisting of a terracotta coloured block with undulating surface, which has chains attached to the underside. Made from pigmented latex cement on plywood, lead, wood, UV light, nails and paint. Dated 1992.
*David Hugo studied at the Royal College of Art from 1981-84, and by 1987 had a studio at the Delfina Studio Trust in Stratford, East London, where he amassed a large collection of discarded industrial machinery, electrical components and other materials from skips which he used for sculptures. He was studio assistant for Eduardo Poalozzi who greatly influenced his work. He exhibited in the UK and overseas and was mostly commissioned by corporate organisations. In 2004 he took a post as Model Maker in the Architecture School at Edinburgh School where he worked until his death in 2013.
