*Gordon Baldwin OBE was born in Lincoln in 1932, he studied at the Lincoln School of Art and the Central School of Art and Design (1950-53) and was a teacher of Ceramics and Sculpture at Eton College. He was influenced by contemporary sculpture and has worked in stoneware and earthenware, his work has been widely exhibited and is represented in many public collections.
Lots 1270-1274 were acquired by a friend of Gordon's wife Audrie Gie, presumably many as gifts. We believe these to be quite early works, probably 1950's-60's.
Audrie was born in Cape Town in 1922 but came to the UK at a young age and settled in Devon. During the War she worked at Bletchley and afterwards went to Art School in Tiverton. She became Head of the Art Department at Covent Garden, and provided printing and design to Coventry Cathedral. She was also Head of Department at Wimbledon Art Collage, and continued to have commissions after her retirement.
