A CASED TUNIC OF SIR FREDERIC PHILIPSON-STOW. (De BEERs) Two formal frock jackets and formal hat, trousers etc, worn by Sir F Philipson-Stow one of the founders of De Beers in South Africa. The brass label has his name on it, attached on the outer lid. Uniforms from the Pomp of the British Empire days, with gilt buttons or cord buttons. One Frock Jacket has white facings, another of almost a Naval style, has gold bullion. The man known to history as the 'Unknown Diamond Magnate'. A Life Governor of De Beers (1888) Whilst Cecil Rhodes, Barney Barnato and others died Millionaires in their 40's, Frederic left £350,000 when he died aged 58 yrs old. The other Governors also went into Gold Mining, Sir Frederic though did not see any future in it. Another Governor who did so, left £10,000,000 in 1908
