A MIDDLESEX GT WAR PALS BATTALION CASUALTY PAIR. British War & Victory Medal pair named to PS-1428 Pte J H Dixon Midd'x R. The 17th Middlesex were a Pals Battalion formed as the First Footballers Battalion. They took heavy losses in various actions during the Battle of the Somme, then again in 1917, losing over 1000 men in the Gt War. John Hainsworth Dixon was Killed in Action on the 30/7/1916 and is interred at Heilly Station Cemetery Merricourt L'Abbe. Aged 21 years the son of Helen and the late Henry Dixon of Rutland Road, Bedford.
