A MILITARY CROSS & 1914 STAR TO THE R W SURREY REGT.
A cased Military Cross GV in original case with top bar mount present, unnamed as issued. A 1914 Star named to Lt B M Kenny Queens R, who was a regular officer serving in France from 13/8/1914. He was severely wounded on the 14th October 1914, having served in the Retreat from Mons (entitled to the bar & rosettes). From a wealthy Irish family the cousin of M-Gen Sir George Kelly-Kenny GCB. KCMG. GCVO, a close friend of both Edward V11 and George V.
Major Bertram Kelly had a limited recovery from his severe wounds, though he served throughout the war. He retired on health grounds in 1925 and died in Derby in 1926 aged 41.
Serving in the Queens as a 2/Lt in 1905, Lt 1910, A/Cpt 1915, Cpt & Staff Lt 1917, Bt Major 1919, Major 1925 Rtd on pay due to ill health (Wounds) October 1925. The son of Judge William Kenny MP (Unionist) QC
Awarded the Military Cross 28/12/1917 LG 1/1/1918.
Of the 1000+ Officers and men who embarked for France in 1914 with the Queens Regt, only 17 were still serving at the Armistice.
