A QSA (4 bars) 1914 STAR & BAR TRIO 7th & 5th DRAGOON GDS. A Queens South Africa medal with four bars, Cape Colony-Orange Free State also South Africa 1901 & S Africa 1902. Named to 5442 Pte D Coupland 7th Drgn Gds, An early war entry 1914 Star and Bar, named to 9267 Pte D Coupland. 5th/D Gds. British War & Victory Medals, named to 9267 Pte D Coupland 5/D.Gds. David Coupland served in South Africa and was awarded the Queens Medal and Four Clasps, each confirmed on the roll. However it also states entitled to a KSA medal, presumably an administration error, at the time. It does not appear that it was issued, due to his bars awarded. In the Great War he was in shown as entering the theatre of war, 6/8/1914 also awarded his under fire bar. Serving with the Machine gun Corps from February 1916, thence with the Reserve Cavalry Regiment. Copies of his service details are with the group.
