Lot 165

A FRENCH CAVALRY SWORD ANX1 As issued to the Heavy Cavalry Regiments, dated 1811 the blade with a semi-spear point. Showing field evidence of alteration just prior to Waterloo, with no markings to show the sword was re-issued afterwards. With the rare and little seen Mark 2 Scabbard, marked 5.K.4.64 of heavy construction. When the 1st pattern scabbard was issued to the Heavy Cavalry, its weakness was quickly apparent. General Kellerman had it replaced by heavy scabbards of 2.5mm thickness . They were then quickly replaced by the Mk 3 version, which the Cavalrymen favoured. Originally purchased from an estate sale in the Brecon Beacons.
