BLACK JADE ARCHAISTIC BI DISC, possibly Ming style, Chinese or Tibetan, of sectional, circular form, carved with mythical beasts and characters around a central dragon, the reverse similarly decorated, diameter 38cm Footnote: The disc is thought to represent the heavens and so forms a connection for the dead to traverse into the afterlife. They were also carried as status symbols and marks of rank.
