A VICTORIAN SCOTTISH SCHOOL PRIZE MEDALLION (The Moir Medal) for Campie House, Musselburgh, with Latin presentation inscription, awarded by Headmaster A. Balfour to Adam Logan in 1861, the obverse in relief with a classical portrait head above the Greek letter delta within a wreath border & legend "IN MEMORIAM OBIT MDCCCLI", suspensory ring, maker's mark only, by John Law of Edinburgh c.1861 (in original fitted case with the maker's label); 2.5" (6.4 cms) diameter; 2.9 oz *David Macbeth Moir (1798-1851), Scottish physician & writer. Much of his prose & verse was signed with the Greek delta mark, particularly so in Blackwood's Magazine.
