A RARE SET OF TWELVE GEORGE III SCOTTISH TABLE KNIVES
with painted terminals and bright-engraved decoration, initialled "M", by Alexander Spence, Edinburgh 1785-9 (maker's mark, duty mark & thistle), four of the above with carbon steel blades stamped "James Miller, 70 Princes Street, Edinburgh" and eight with replacement stainless steel blades; the handles 4.25" (10.8 cms) long, the stainless steel blades slightly shorter than the carton-steel ones (12)
