A Painted Oak Box, the hinged lid with the remains of various wax seal impressions (including that of the Moulton coat of arms). The Interior with makers label of G. Daniell, Edward St, Portman Square, Early 19th Century, 56 x 28 cms This box was used by Elizabeth Barrett Browning to send letters to Hugh Stuart Boyd, a blind Greek Scholar who lived at Ruby Cottage, Malvern Wells, a village near Hope End. Subsequently, her sister Arabella used it to store papers remaining at Wimpole Street after Elizabeth had left to marry Robert Browning. For further details about the correspondence see McCarthy B.P.
