A MID-18TH CENTURY DRESDEN ROCOCO CABINET, in the manner of Michael Kimmel*, the wavy moulded top above a pair of mirrored doors with parquetry inlay flanking a central burr wood 'column' and with burr wood canted corners, the sides with panels of geometric parquetry inlay. The fitted interior with a shelved top section with rosewood veneers above an arrangement of drawers and two secret drawers flanking a pair of Corinthian columns with carved boxwood capitals and a mirrored door enclosing a mirrored 'ballroom' alcove with curved doors and ceiling and geometric inlaid 'floor'. The cabinet set on a later, but well matched, 19th century base with original single drawer, wavy apron and cabriole legs with further ormolu mounts, with keys, total height 184cm, width 122cm, depth 60cm *this cabinet is certainly influenced by, and possibly from the workshop of, Michael Kimmel (1715-1794). After his apprenticeship in Zittau, Kimmel worked at the Imperial Court in Vienna for six years. In Dresden he worked for the court cabinetmakers Peter Hesse and Johann Petany. Hesse always emphasised the extraordinary quality of his work and his knowledge of both English and French cabinetmaking. Kimmel was hired in 1751 as the royal cabinet maker.
