Houbigant, Armand-Gustav. Cartes Recreatives, 34 hand-coloured engraved cards in original box with a hand-coloured engraved caricature of the author on a paper label, each 60mm x 90mm, [Metz: Terquem et May], 1819 RARE. Very few sets are known to have survived of this scarce satirical card game, which drew inspiration from the political and social events of the day. Many sets vary to some degree and the present set would seem to have both variations of specific cards and omissions. The full set is noted at 32 cards. No other hand-coloured sets have been traced.
