Lot 409
Coleridge, Samuel Taylor. An early nineteenth-century envelope of hair, light brown in colour, believed to be that of the poet. PROVENANCE: Derwent Coleridge (1800-1883), third son of Samuel Taylor Coleridge. For a similar sample with the same provenance, see Lot 41, Sotheby's English Literature, History, Private Press, Children's Books and Illustrations, Thursday 13th December 2007.
Please note that doubt has been raised regarding the origin of this lock of hair. The envelope is 20th century, and although the hair is from a similar source to the lot sold at Sotheby’s in 2007 some members of the family were not of the opinion that this was Coleridge’s hair. Consequently it is offered with a revised estimate of £50 – 100 and not subject to return under any circumstances.
