He married the poet's daughter, Sara, in 1829. The volume is further inscribed by Ellen Coleridge, 'John Duke Coleridge. In Memory of Herbert Coleridge, from his widow and sister, 1861.' Bartholomew Frere (1776-1851) was a British diplomat, stationed in the Mediterranean.
