Cruikshank, George. The Loving Ballad of Lord Bateman... [by William Thackeray], first edition, first issue, half-title, 12 engraved plates by George Cruikshank, including music page, 8pp. of publisher's advertisements at end, original limp cloth gilt, 12mo, London: Charles Tilt, 1839 RARE. This copy is housed in a custom morocco-backed solander box, the lid with a fine original drawing in pencil and ink of the image on the upper cover. Thackeray wrote the verses which were then edited by Dickens, the author of the humorous preface and 'scholarly' notes.
