The Invasion of the Crimea, 8 volumes, first edition, except volumes 1-2, second edition, General Sir William Codrington's copy, volume 2 inscribed thus and dated 'Gibraltar, March 1863', with an ALS from the author loosely inserted, half-titles, 64 plates, maps and plans, many folding, numerous notes, clippings, etc. loosely inserted, original publisher's cloth gilt, 8vo, London: William Blackwood & Sons, 1863-1887 ASSOCIATION COPY. General Sir William Codrington (1804-1884) was Commander in Chief at Sebastopol 1855-56, later Governor of Gibraltar 1859-65. The 4pp. ALS from the author to Codrington notes, 'My dear Sir William, Many thanks to you for your words of congratulation' and discusses his work on the book.
