THOMAS BUTTERSWORTH (1768-1842) THE ROYAL GEORGE AT LEITH FOR THE VISIT OF KING GEORGE IV TO SCOTLAND Signed, oil on panel 25 x 34cm. Provenance: Family collection since at least 1981. Offered at London, Sothebys, January 26th 2005, lot 22 but retained by the family. This subject records the first visit to Scotland by a reigning monarch since the Jacobite Rebellion. It was intended to heal the old enmities and was of significant historic importance in re-establishing the status of the Monarchy in Scotland.
