ATTRIBUTED TO DOROTHY HEPWORTH (1898-1978) GIRL READING Bears indistinct initials (possibly WER) and date 19 upper left, formerly inscribed P. Preece and Moor Hatch-Cookham-Berks verso (now obscured by lining) 39.5 x 35.5cm.; with a pencil drawing of a girl sewing by Hepworth, 48 x 31cm. (2) * Dorothy Hepworth had a close relationship with Patricia Preece, wife of Sir Stanley Spencer, and this has given rise to speculation that Hepworth could have painted some of the works formerly ascribed to Preece. Provenance: (drawing only) London, Christies, Studio Sale of Patricia Preece and Dorothy Hepworth, April 2nd 1984; London, Abbott & Holder

“I have to say I’m VERY impressed by the level of research that has gone in to the various items of my late father’s ...  Matthew sent me the full history of my Grandfather’s medals from WW1 - without any input from myself - so I’d only just sent him a note saying thanks, then the postman arrived with your items ... with even more evidence of unfrequented detailed research ! It’s been an absolute pleasure dealing with you all ... and may the pleasant surprises keep on coming !”
