David Bethel was born in Bath in 1923 and studied art at Gloucester School of Arts and Crafts from 1946-1948 and, later in Bristol. He became a skilled teacher and education administrator, riding to become director of Leicester Polytechnic. He exhibited widely in the provinces and was a regular contributor to the RWA, of which he was elected a member. After retiring to Stoneygate in Leicestershire, he continued his interest in art and produced finely drawn architectural watercolours . These offer a measured contrast to the more exuberant and inventive techniques found in his accomplished prints which embody perfectly the eras of their production. This interesting selection of his work spans 50 years of Bethel's output and has been consigned for sale by his family.
