* This suite of prints has a curious history from a technical point of view. The prints, commissioned by Curwen Prints in 1967, were devised as linocuts but were transferred to plates to be printed as offset lithographs. Precise colour matching was an obsession for Bawden and the technicians at the Curwen Studio, notably Stanley Jones, were skilled at working to the artist's exacting standards. None of the `Six London Markets` exists as a linocut but `The Floral Hall, Covent Garden`(c.1967) - not part of this series - was indeed produced as a linocut. Confusion arises from this distinction.
