ALFRED GOMERSAL VICKERS (1810-1837)
FRIEDRICHSPLATZ, BERLIN
Watercolour and pencil
23.5 x 36cm.
* Vickers was sent to Russia in 1833 by Charles Heath (1785-1848), a prominent engraver in book publishing. The subjects produced by Vickers were used in Heath's Annuals and A Journey to St. Petersburg and Moscow through Courland and Livonia (1836) by Leitch Ritchie. Ritchie notes that Vickers returned to Britain via Berlin, so it is possible that a further Annual was planned to include Berlin, Cracow and Danzig.
