JORAM MARIGA (1927-2000) - LARGE MARBLE SCULPTURE OF A MAN, ZIMBABWE
a large marble sculpture of a man with hands clasped, exhibited at the Seventh Annual Exhibition of Arts & Design in 1964-1965, open to all residents of Rhodesia, Zambia & Malawi. Item No 169, White Figure, Marble, private collection. With a folder of paperwork including original receipt from the Rhodes Gallery in 1964, Exhibition catalogue etc. 41cms high, and with carved J M signature to the back of the sculpture.
*Joram Mariga has been called the father of Zimbawean sculpture, because of his influence of sculpture on the local community from the 1950's onwards. The sculptural movement he was part of is referred to as Shona Sculpture.
