Lot 1729
OAK LONGCASE CLOCK,
early 18th century, the brass dial with an 11 1/2" silvered chapter ring, enclosing a subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture beneath a silvered boss inscribed Ralph Cloud Beamister (Beaminster), on a brass, five pillar, eight day movement striking hourly to a bell, the case with an arched door flanked by 3/4 columns on a base with a rectangular door and lenticle, with weights, key and pendulum, height 220cm
Footnote: offered with this lot is a copy of Beaminster Clocks & their Makers, David R Beney, published Good Hope Antiques, Beaminster, 1996. Page 18 illustrates what appears to be this clock & dial and describes it as having a pull cord repeat mechanism. The hood to the clock being offered has a filled hole, presumably where the cord emerged, but there is no evidence of a repeat mechanism on the movement.
