An early 18th century Scottish mounted ivory snuff mull with a butterfly hinge, inscribed "AMPHERLAW" & an oval cartouche, engraved with a crowned thistle, crossed sword and sceptre, the motto "PRO REGE ET PATRIA", the date "1723" and "I.R.VIII" for James Francis Edward Stuart (The Old Pretender), unmarked; 2.8" (7.3 cms) high
