with a butterfly hinge, inscribed around the base "Charles Wilsone Surgeon Glasgow", the base engraved with the sun, moon and the motto "VICTRICI CEDAT LUX AEMULA LUCI", each side with a circular plaque; one engraved with the arms of Haldane of Gleneagles, the other unidentified, the cover plaque with engraved cypher, motto and crossed sword & sceptre, bordered by the inscription "JOHN HALDANE ESQ. OF LANRICK 6/10", unmarked; 3.2" (8 cms) high
