A RARE FRENCH SMALL SILVERGILT MARRIAGE CASKET
on four lion feet with a domed cover, swing handle and a hasp and staple box lock, the body stamped in low relief with winged putti and formal scrollwork, the cover engraved on each end with a stylised shell and on top with scrollwork centred by the applied classical portrait of a man, struck (slightly mis-struck), on the base with a single mark, a fleur-de-lys crowned with a cross & a pellet or grain, probably late 16th/early 17th century; 3.1" (7.7 cms) long; 3.8 oz
