of rectangular outline with a stand-away hinge & a reeded border, the cover inset with a later medal depicting a classical portrait bust of Sir Joshua Reynolds, the box unmarked, c.1720; 3.2" (8 cms) long
*The medal by John Kirk is dated 1773, the year Reynolds was elected Mayor of Plymouth, the reverse depicting the personification of Art, at an easel, painting a portrait within the legend "President of the Royal Academy".
