A GIEVES TROPICAL HELMET AND CASE MARKED G.A.G. ORMSBY R.N. The tropical helmet with a label to the interior 'Gieves LD Royal Naval Outfitters, 21, Old Bond Street, London', and marked in ink 'G.A.G.Ormsby'. The Gieves travelling tin with 'spotted painted decoration and painted 'G.A.G. Ormsby R.N' and an attached paper travelling label 'Commander Orsmby'. The box 28cm high 37cm wide. GAG Orsmby appears to have had a distinguished Naval career, a midshipman from 1927 and still serving in the 1950's as Assistant Chief of Staff, Naval forces Central Europe. Awarded both DSO and DSC his will be a career worthy of further study.
