Of domed lacquered black leather with a detachable spike with five holes, the spike fitting with domed rivets, with a field grey other ranks helmet plate of a Prussian Eagle holding sceptre and orb in its claws, with back strap with sliding vent, leather chin trap and state and national cockades, the interior stamped '57' and 'Gammersb ....' around the date 1917.
