A PURDEY 16 BORE DOUBLE BARREL RIFLE. With 74cm side by side barrels marked 'J. Purdey 314 1/2 Oxford Street, London', with three folding for sights, browned barrels, finely engraved hammers, side plates and trigger guard, numbered 5475, with a finely shaped and crosshatched stock with percussion cap compartment, the lid engraved with a scrolling floral motif, 115cm. Purdey number 5475 suggests a date of 1841, and we are informed the original owner was a Mr C.P. Leslie.
