June Fine Art Sale Delivers Outstanding Results Across Every Department...

8th July 2026

Lawrences June Fine Art Sale proved to be another success, with spirited bidding from collectors around the world driving exceptional prices across jewellery, furniture, collectors' items and works of art. Throughout the sale, quality, rarity and provenance remained the key ingredients for success, with several lots comfortably exceeding their pre-sale estimates.

Leading the sale was a spectacular late 19th Century sapphire and diamond cluster ring, which became one of the standout lots of the auction, which was bought for an impressive £52,000*. Its exceptional gemstones attracted considerable interest, cementing its place as one of the headline results of the June Fine Art Sale.

Fine coloured gemstones continued to perform strongly, with a beautiful ruby and diamond cluster ring more than exceeding expectations. Estimated at £6,000, competitive bidding saw the ring climb and was bought for an impressive £13,750*.

Among the department's more unusual highlights was an exquisite French Belle Époque pendant timepiece by Fernand Paillet, dating from around 1910. Beautifully decorated with enamel, pearls and rose-cut diamonds, the elegant pendant watch was purchased at £8,750*, demonstrating continued demand for rare and beautifully crafted period jewellery.

The Collectors department produced some of the most exciting bidding battles of the sale, with several remarkable pieces attracting strong international interest. Stealing the show was a magnificent William De Morgan Persian vase, decorated by Fred Passenger. Estimated at £5,000, this exceptional Arts & Crafts masterpiece inspired determined competition before being bought for £18,750*, three times its lower estimate and one of the most impressive estimate-beating results of the auction.

Textile art also enjoyed a successful outing, with two Peter Collingwood Macrogauze wall hangings finding enthusiastic buyers. The striking black linen example led the pair, comfortably exceeding its £5,000 estimate, and being purchased for a final price of £8,750*, while the larger woven white linen hanging was bought at £8,125* against an estimate of £6,000. Both results underline the continued appreciation for Collingwood's innovative work.

The Furniture and Works of Art department also delivered impressive results. An outstanding George II giltwood looking glass, dating from the second quarter of the 18th century, was among the department's leading lots. Made for Sir Edward Northey, Attorney General and MP for Tiverton, the magnificent mirror had remained within the Northey family by descent before coming to auction. Its historical significance and impressive presence helped it on the day, and was bought for £21,250*.

Collectors competed strongly for a French Grande Sonnerie carriage clock with repeater, dating to around 1870. Estimated at £1,200, the beautifully engineered timepiece far exceeded expectations, and was bought for £5,250*.

Another highlight came in the form of a rare late 15th-century carved softwood figure of St George and the Dragon, dating from around 1480–1500. Estimated at £4,000, spirited bidding saw the medieval carving more than double its estimate to achieve a purchased price of £11,250*, demonstrating continued demand for important early sculpture.

From exceptional jewellery to historic furniture and rare collectors' items, the June Fine Art Sale showcased the breadth and quality of objects entrusted to Lawrences. Competitive bidding throughout the auction reflected a buoyant market and the enduring appeal of rare, well-provenanced and beautifully crafted pieces.
