| 59 | A 12th LANCERS OFFICERS SWORD. Honeysuckle design Wilkinsons Solid Patent Hilt, with gilt and red sword knot. Edward V11 cypher on the blade with the initials F H N on one side. On the other is 'Prince of Wales X11 Royal Lancers, other foilage designs on both sides. Slightly curved single-edged 35" blade, in steel scabbard. Frederic Herbert Norton educated at Malvern and R M College, joined the 12th Lancers serving in India and Africa, retiring prior to WW1. Rejoining at the outbreak of war, with the Norfolk Yeomanry and the Northumberland Hussars with whom he saw service in France. Being severley wounded and buried for two days, he needed extensive surgery to the jaw. He later joined the RFC/RAF as an observer from February 1918. See Illustration. £200-250 |
