Put together by the daughter of Colonel Crookshank, bodyguard to George V. Invitations, photographs and newspaper cuttings, relating to various European heads of state, etc. Theatre Programmes, details of the death of Captain Crookshank and funerals of King Alexander of Yugoslavia amongst others.

551 DIARIES AND EPHEMERA OF WAYNMAN DIXON.
Shipbuilder and brother of Sir Raylton Dixon, famous for his work in Egypt etc. He and his family were prominent in the field of design in ships, also his work on the tombs. Also the bringing to Britain of Cleopatra's Needle. Lost afloat in the storms off the Bay of Biscay, salvaged before finally getting it to the Thames in London. Waynman Dixon designed the carrier for the towing, among Piers and Bridges.
Modern designs included Cantilever framed boats, daringly calling them almost unsinkable. Many photographs and details of the system are in the lot. Also his travel journals from the 1870,s onwards. He showed the King around the Shipyard, on a Royal Visit.
Builders of many Merchant and War Ships, at one time one of the foremost producers of ships.
An insight into the life and successes of the Dixon family, who started from humble origins.

Presumably from the Officers who sailed in ships built by Dixon's, during WW1. Stamped with the number of the ship from which it was posted. Mentioning Shelling and bringing down a Zeppelin etc, (12) marked passsed by censor. Also the Telegram saying the King & Queen mourn the loss of Mjr C M Dixon 12/10/1914. Also other letters to Waynman Dixon.
