the square head has the letter N engraved below a Viscount's coronet and the letter B below a ducal coronet for the title Duke of Bronte bestowed on Nelson by the King of Naples in 1798. The word Trafalgar below refers to Nelson's death at the famous battle in October 1805. The outer shank bears the motto 'Palmam qui Meruit Ferat' (let him bear the palm of victory who has won it) and the inner shank is inscribed 'Lost to his country 21 Oct. 1805 aged 47.' This ring is one of approximately 58 made by John Salter of the Strand, London to be given by Nelson's executors to his closest friends, relatives and the pall bearers at his funeral in 1806.
Although in poor condition it does give the buyer the opportunity to restore this historic jewel to its former glory.
